New Deal is a key part of the Government's Welfare to Work strategy. It gives New Deal jobseekers a real chance to develop their potential, gain skills and experience and find work. In addition, New Deal also offers the opportunity to single parents and disabled people on other benefits to explore different work options. It's also a great opportunity for businesses to make use of the untapped energies and talents of a new labour force.

 

 

New Deal for young people is designed to help you find work that suits you and is very different from anything that has been offered before.

To Qualify you need to be:-

  • Aged between 18 and 24

  • Receiving job seekers allowance for 6 months

You will:-

  • Receive your own New Deal Personal Advisor

  • Be given independent careers advice if you need it

  • Receive individual help to find work

You will receive:-

  • Up to 4 months of concentrated personal advice

  • Help to prepare you for the workplace

  • Help to identify a route for you into work

Your New Deal Personal Advisor:-

  • Works closely with you to find out what you want to do

  • Helps you understand what you can offer

  • Helps you choose the best path out of unemployment

The options you can choose from are:-

  • Receive a two-week 'Gateway to Work' course

  • Receive help in finding a job (often with training)

  • Receive help with setting up your own business

  • Gain experience and training through work with a voluntary or environmental group

  • Study full time for the qualifications you need 
    to help you find a job

New Deal for people aged 25+ applies innovative ways to help you examine the skills and experience you may already have and explains how these can be built upon and improved.

It's a chance to look at a variety of jobs, as well as offering a training opportunity to gain the new skills and qualifications employers are looking for.

To Qualify you need to be:-

  • Aged 25 and over

  • Unemployed for two years or more

You will receive:-

  • Your own Personal Advisor

  • A series of advisory interviews

  • Intensive personal help to find work

  • A chance to refresh your existing skills

  • New opportunities to train and gain new skills 

  • An opportunity to study or train for up to a year

If you haven't found a job after a month or so:-

  • You may be able to take up a New Deal job for which the employer is paid a weekly subsidy for six months - and most jobs continue beyond that. In that time you have the chance to show what you can do.

New Deal 50 plus is a major new package of support for people over the age of 50 who want to work, and it can help give you the advice, skills and confidence to get back to work.

To Qualify you need to be:-

  • Over the age of 50

  • Unemployed for 6 months or more

  • Claiming - 

Income Support
Job Seekers Allowance
Incapacity Benefit
Severe Disability Allowance

(You may be eligible if you have been signing for National Insurance credits or receiving Invalid Care Allowance.)

You will receive:-

  • Your own Personal Advisor

  • A series of advisory interviews

  • Intensive personal help to find work

  • Help with preparing your work history (CV)
    and letters of application

  • Help to improve your interview skills

  • Free use of stationery and stamps

  • Free use of computers and photocopiers

  • Free use of telephones and newspapers

  • Access to training courses before you apply for a job

  • Support to develop your self-confidence

Features:-

  • An Employment Credit of £60 per week, tax-free,
    for up to 52 weeks on top of your wage
    (unless your wage exceeds £15,000 a year)

  • A Training Grant of up to £750

New Deal for lone parents is a service to help single parents
on Income Support find work.

You will receive:-

  • Your own Personal Advisor

  • Help identify your skills

  • Advice on which job will be right for you

  • Help identify training opportunities

  • Help looking for work

  • Help writing a CV

  • Help preparing for interviews

  • Advice on how much better off you will be in work

  • Specialist employment advice if you have a disability

  • Help with arranging registered childcare

The Scheme offers a chance to:-

  • Be better off

  • Learn new skills

  • Develop your confidence

  • Meet new people

Features:-

  • You can receive Working Tax Credit

  • Help with low earnings and other work incentives

  • You can keep your benefits for the first 2 weeks in work

  • Continue receipt of Housing Benefit

  • Continue receipt of Council Tax Benefit

  • Help with NHS charges

  • Back to Work Bonus

  • Child Maintenance Bonus

  • Help with childcare costs
